Thoughtful Journal Responses

Each morning in LA class, students enter the room and interact with their peers as they get settled in. We begin each class with a journal prompt on the board that students have about 10-15 minutes to respond to. After students answer the prompt thoughtfully, they have a period of time available to share their responses with their peers. The purpose of having a morning journal prompt activity is to help the students settle into class, practice their individual writing skills, and to exercise their brains to improve thinking quickly and effectively while responding to a question or topic.  Most students truly enjoy the daily morning prompts and are experiencing growth in their writing abilities because of the consistent practice. As a class, we are able to learn many wonderful things about our peers and the experiences they have had.
